Highways Asset Management
Almost all of the road network in Blackpool is looked after by Blackpool Council, along with our partners who deliver certain works and services on our behalf.
Blackpool Council manages and maintains some 590 kms of highway network, covering everything from major routes to minor local roads.
But there is a lot more to it than repairing and replacing roads. The council, as highways and transport authority for Blackpool, is responsible for setting speed limits, gritting roads in winter and looking after bridges, tens of thousands of street lights and other structures.
We have a key role in coping with traffic accidents, civil emergencies, improving road safety as well as in many other areas. This is a massive task and we could not do this without the support and leadership from the elected members and cooperation of the residents of Blackpool.
